How Do I Get An Emergency Dentist Appointment?

We reserve times in our diary for emergency appointments daily. You can call the practice on 01473 257379 from 08.30 am, and our team will be able to arrange an appointment for you.

How Much Are Teeth Whitening At The Dentist?

Take-home teeth whitening at the dentist is £420. If you become a Denplan Essentials member, you will receive a membership discount, reducing the cost to as little as £336. We also offer packages as part of our whitening services.

How Often Should You Go To The Dentist?

For most adult patients, it is recommended that you visit your dentist and hygienist every six months for routine care. The dentist will advise you of a recall period at your routine appointment.

Can A Dentist Pull An Infected Tooth?

Dentists can extract infected teeth, but you may need a course of antibiotics first to help reduce inflammation in the area. We strongly recommend, when possible, that you choose to save an infected tooth rather than have it extracted. Our dentists and treatment coordinator will be able to have a discussion with you about all of your options and ensure that you can make an informed decision about your individual case.

Can Dentists Prescribe Antibiotics?

Yes, dentists can prescribe antibiotics for dental-related infections if they are required. The dentists will always be sure to thoroughly check your individual case and medical history first so that they can choose the best-suited antibiotic for you.

How Much Is Your Dentist’s Initial Visit?

The consultation may take up to 1 hour, so make sure you have set aside enough time.

It includes:

  • Taking a full detailed medical and dental history
  • Checking your teeth and gums
  • Checking the function of your jaw joint
  • A visual examination of your mouth as part of oral cancer; we examine your lips, tongue, throat, cheeks and gums for any signs of oral cancer
  • Any necessary X-rays: radiographs can be important in the detection of decay, tumours, cysts, and bone levels and assessment of existing restorations and tooth anatomy
  • Discussion of your oral hygiene routine

Finally, your dentist will discuss with you the dental treatment options available and a schedule of works (which will enable you to plan the timing of your treatment) and provide you with a suggested treatment plan, which normally includes a visit to our dental hygienist.

After the appointment, we can then book your next check-up. Depending on your needs, check-ups are recommended every 6 to 12 months. We recommend a minimum check-up of 12 months.

How Do Dentists Whiten Teeth?

At Lighthouse Dental Practice, we offer take-home teeth whitening treatments. You will be seen for an initial consultation to assess your suitability for whitening, and if you would like to proceed, impressions can be taken at this appointment. Your impressions will then be sent away to our dental laboratory so that your custom whitening trays can be made. You will be invited back to the practice a few weeks later to have your whitening trays fitted and be provided with verbal and written instructions on how to use the whitening product.
