An extraction is the removal of a tooth from the mouth.

Extractions are performed for a very damaged tooth or because of severe gum diseases, which may affect the supporting tissues and bone structures of teeth. Extractions of problematic wisdom teeth are routinely performed. Also, some permanent teeth are extracted to make space for orthodontic treatment.

Extractions under sedation

Extractions under sedation refer to the process of removing teeth while the patient is in a sedated or relaxed state. This approach is commonly used for patients who experience dental anxiety or fear, have a low pain threshold, require multiple extractions, or have complex extraction needs. Sedation helps to alleviate anxiety and discomfort during the procedure, ensuring a more comfortable and stress-free experience. There are different levels of sedation that can be used for extractions, depending on the patient’s needs and the complexity of the procedure.

During extractions under sedation, the dental professional will carefully monitor the patient’s vital signs and ensure their safety throughout the procedure. They will also administer local anaesthesia (numbing medication) to the extraction site to ensure the patient does not feel pain during the extraction process.

It’s important to discuss the different sedation options with your dentist or oral surgeon to determine the most appropriate choice based on your specific needs and the complexity of the extraction. They will evaluate your medical history, level of anxiety, and any other relevant factors to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.

For any particularly complex extractions or surgical procedures, we have a professional on-site specialist oral surgeon to perform your treatment.
