Anti-ageing treatments are a quick and convenient way to smooth out lines on the forehead and around the eyes and mouth without any need for surgery.

The treatment is accomplished by administering small amounts of anti-ageing solution in the area of the wrinkles. It works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that are responsible for producing the wrinkling of the facial skin, thus producing the appearance of smoother, flatter skin.

This makes lines and wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and frown lines, less obvious. They can temporarily alter your appearance without the need for surgery.

Examples of facial areas that can be treated:

  • Frown lines/glabellar lines.
  • Forehead lines.
  • Smile lines (crow’s feet).
  • Lip enhancements.
  • Nose-to-mouth lines/Nasolabial folds.
  • Marionette lines.

Before you go ahead

If you’re considering treatment containing wrinkle correction, be certain about why you want to have them.

Limitations

  • The effect isn’t permanent.
  • There’s no guarantee the desired effect will be achieved.
  • The ageing process will still happen elsewhere – for example, it will not fix drooping eyelids.

Safety

  • Ask the dentist what you should do if something were to go wrong.
  • It is a prescription-only medicine that should only be prescribed and given by an appropriately trained healthcare professional, such as a doctor, dentist, pharmacist prescriber, or nurse prescriber.
  • You shouldn’t have the treatment if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding since the effects on the baby aren’t known.

What it involves

Muscle relaxing treatment

This should always be a face-to-face meeting. Consultation with the dentist who will be performing the anti-ageing treatment is very important. Your medical history and any medications you have or are currently taking should be discussed. We will want to fully understand your medical history and reasons for wanting the treatment before you go ahead. Discussing expectations is also important. Determining the effectiveness of the treatment will depend on skin type, thickness, and degree of wrinkling.

How does it work?

Local anaesthetic isn’t usually needed. Your skin is cleaned, and small amounts of the treatment are administered to the muscles of the face in the areas being treated.

Several doses are usually needed at different sites, which takes about 10 minutes. The treatment may be a little painful, and most people tolerate the discomfort well.

Afterwards

It is unlikely you will see any difference straight away. Although some patients may experience treatment effects in 48 to 72 hours, most patients do not notice the full treatment effect for 7 to 14 days following the treatment. Should you desire additional treatment, a 30-day wait is recommended. Avoid massaging or rubbing the treated areas for up to three days. The effects generally last for about four to six months. If you want to maintain the effect, you’ll need regular follow-up treatment.

For most patients, the aim is natural-looking rejuvenation (not fake/frozen).

What’s the best way to achieve this?

The frozen look is only caused when too many anti-ageing treatments are administered in one area. Working under the strictest regulation in the UK, exceeding all mandatory and voluntary requirements, the Lighthouse Dental Practice team in Ipswich is qualified to prescribe the correct dosage and frequency of treatment. We target only the small, specific muscles responsible for unwanted lines and wrinkles, meaning your normal facial expressions will remain unaffected.

Cost

The treatment costs between £150 – £350 per session, depending on the amount and brand of product used. We will discuss the best plan for you to achieve your desired look.
