At Lighthouse Dental Practice, we believe that proper brushing and interdental cleaning are the foundation of good oral health. To help you maintain a healthy smile, we have compiled answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about brushing and flossing.
You should brush your teeth at least twice a day – once in the morning and once before bed. If possible, brushing after meals can further help remove food particles and plaque build-up.
We recommend using a soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid damaging your gums and enamel. Electric toothbrushes can be even more effective in removing plaque and promoting healthy gums.
You should brush for at least two minutes each time. Try dividing your mouth into four sections and spending 30 seconds on each.
Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gums and use gentle, circular motions. Make sure to brush all surfaces of your teeth – outer, inner, and chewing surfaces – as well as your tongue, to remove bacteria.
Yes! Fluoride toothpaste helps strengthen enamel and prevent cavities.
Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months or sooner if the bristles become frayed. A worn-out toothbrush will not clean your teeth as effectively.
